Ramadhan is the month of forgiveness and the month of giving. On the 15th of Ramadhan there is a special event called ‘qaranqashoo’. It is the day mainly dedicated into making all children have fun in a good way and be happy. It is a tradition that goes back long time back.
In the evening after breaking their fast children go door to door singing and chanting traditional songs and beating drums. This attracts the attention of people and they give them variety of gifts. The children collect money, sweets or sometimes toys. A day or two before the event, you can see people getting ready by going to in souq to buy gifts and sweets ready to welcome their visitors. All children whether they are fasting or still too young to observe this Islamic pillar, look forward for this day.
Every child young or old, healthy or sick has the right to be happy on this day. However, there are those unfortunate ones who are sick and confined to the hospital beds and canot go out to have fun with their friends and families. This year the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association took an initiation of giving those unfortunate children a chance to be happy with others. Toys and goody bags were distributed to them at the Sultan Qaboos University hospital wards for sick children. It was a great pleasure beyond description to see beautiful smiles lighting up those miserable children’s faces. Some of whom are living in constant pain sometimes have to endure days of harsh treatment.
You can’t imagine how those smiles will melt your heart, even if they will survive only for a while they still worth a million
.
